Metal components manufactured by powder metallurgy tend to be regarded as having a low density compared to machined or stamped wrought material. Although, low density can be an advantage depending on the applications, but in general operations, high density is required to meet the mechanical strength requirements assumed in the design phase. In this issue, we introduce the characteristics of powder metallurgy from the perspective of density.

β-Ti (Beta Titanium) alloys have received a lot of attention as the next generation implant material in medical industry. In this issue, we introduce the reasons of β-Ti alloys attract attentions and our progresses of MIM process development.‍

In the previous issue, we explained that gears with diameters of a few millimetres, small modules in special shapes such as bevel and bevel teeth (bevel, miter, helical and etc.) are difficult to machine, and are typical of high cost gears.

We have continued to research and develop special-shaped micro gears manufacturing by μ-MIM® technology.
